Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced WordPress Developer, who will be the lead developer, and the 'person-in-charge-of-the-project' with specific expertise in news/media website development to join our team in Chennai. The ideal candidate will be responsible for building and maintaining a sophisticated WordPress-based news website with advanced features including real-time updates, multimedia integration, and robust content management systems.
Key Responsibilities
Design, develop, and implement a custom WordPress theme and necessary plugins for our news platform (text, podcasts and video)
Create and optimize the site architecture, focusing on performance, scalability, and user experience
Implement advanced content management workflows for editorial teams
Develop breaking news alert systems and live update functionalities
Build and integrate multimedia content delivery systems
Implement user engagement features including comments, subscription systems, and personalization
Ensure website security, performance optimization, and regular maintenance
Collaborate with design, editorial, and business teams to meet project requirements
Provide documentation and knowledge transfer to team members
Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues
Required Qualifications
3-5+ years of professional WordPress development experience
Proven experience developing news, media, or content-heavy WordPress websites
Strong backend development skills in PHP (7.4+) and MySQL
Advanced knowledge of WordPress core architecture, theme development, and plugin customization
Experience with WordPress setup, configuration, and maintenance for high-traffic websites
Proficiency in front-end technologies including HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript (ES6+)
Experience implementing responsive design and cross-browser compatibility
Knowledge of performance optimization techniques for WordPress (caching, CDN integration)
Experience with version control systems (Git)
Understanding of SEO best practices for news websites
Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
Preferred Skills
Experience with WordPress Multisite and REST API
Experience in WPML or similar Multilingual Website Plugins
Knowledge of editorial workflows and content management systems
Experience with real-time content delivery systems
Familiarity with WordPress security best practices
Understanding of web accessibility standards (WCAG)
Experience with build tools (Webpack, Gulp, npm)
Basic DevOps knowledge for deployment and maintenance
Experience with analytics implementation and data tracking
