Job Description
We are seeking a Mainframe Systems Operations / Console Operations Specialist to join our infrastructure team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for monitoring, managing, and supporting mainframe systems (VSE, zOS, VM) and their components. This role includes both proactive and reactive operational tasks to ensure continuous availability, efficiency, and stability of critical batch and online systems.
Key Responsibilities
Monitor & manage Production/Test LPARs.
First-level break-fix support for mainframe infrastructure.
Perform IPLs, SADs, and scheduled operational changes.
Support and manage HMC and console hardware environments.
Monitor and analyze batch cycles (daily, weekly, monthly, etc.).
Ensure batch job completion as per the schedule; investigate long-running/looping jobs.
Operate scheduling tools like OPC, CA-7, and Control-M.
Handle operational weekend activities, escalations, and root cause analysis.
Manage Incident, Change, and Problem Management processes.
Resolve batch job failures and operational anomalies.
Maintain and update operational procedures and documentation.
Collaborate with cross-functional support and development teams.
Required Skills
Experience with scheduling tools: OPC, CA-7, Control-M.
Strong understanding of IPL process and system startup/shutdown routines.
Hands-on experience with HMC and console operations.
Familiarity with CA-OPS/MVS, operator/display commands.
Ability to migrate startup/shutdown processes to SSM control.
Solid grasp of Incident/Change/Problem Management processes.
Proficient in identifying and resolving batch failures and long-running jobs.
Experience working with VSE, zOS, and VM environments.
